I was inspired to persevere with this book by the following reason given by a leading publisher for rejecting it 'We cannot regard a story containing political corruption plausible now that Mr Blair and Mr Brown are in charge' An interesting comment in an era when members of parliament jailed for corruption - and are fiddling their expenses with impunity - none trusted - all treated with contempt. Industrial espionage, corrupt politicians - this fast moving thriller has a unique plot line - interest and excitement on every page - serving to make this a gripping story of our times. 'Spine chilling - punchy and fast moving - based on real places and events - corrupt leaders and greedy entrepreneurs and it's all becoming too real'

Time of the Spider doesn't quite come together despite a bunch of exciting parts. A tale of political corruption, industrial espionage, and murder, it has all the components of a good book. Sadly, it has almost no likable characters and leaves way too many loose ends.Rod, a main character, is out to find out what happened to his friend Mike, who disappeared. A would-be macho-man, Rod finds Mike and a lot more. On learning what the corrupt business world and equally corrupt politicians are up to, he decides to get a piece of the pie for himself. Bad choice.
Plot problems: 1) with a product as revolutionary as the one involved, there should be no need of government aid - the private sector should be ready to jump. 2) Betsy, the industrial spy - Why is she introduced at all when she's dropped like a hot potato by the author after having built her up. 3) The spiders: after letting them loose to commit potential mayhem, the author seems to forget all about them - big mistake! 4) The leopard/panther creature: Why introduce it, only to drop it midstream?
This book needs work - it also needs a character the reader can relate to other than Leveret. As it is, the only one the reader mourns is Leveret's dog.
